My First Roll of Film

Even in my youngest days I’ve romanticized with the thought of being a photographer. So I did what any 10 year old aspiring photographer would do…I took pictures of everyone and everything with whatever cheap cameras I had available to me, anything from Polaroid to toy cameras. As I grew into my adolescent years I kept my photography dream on hold because, like most teenagers, I cared what people would think and I didn’t want to be judged. To make a long story short, I went to college, bought an entry level DSLR. Although I was intimidated the complexity of the wonderful art making machine I now owned, I spent every waking moment teaching myself how to use it. As luck would have it my school’s (West Virginia University…GO MOUNTAINEERS) photography department had an open spot to attend a 10 day workshop in Jackson Hole, WY. This trip changed the way I looked through my camera and ignited a passion in me that I still carry with me today. It also introduced me to shooting with film. I love the way it looks, the process of how the image comes to be, the unknown part of it. These are some of  my favorite images from the first roll of film that I’ve ever shot as a photographer.

I should have bought a pair of boots while I was there. I regret it all the time.
